Tips for second-hand shopping in Stockholm!

18.06.2025

Responsible consumption is an important part of sustainable tourism – and one concrete way to make more sustainable choices when traveling is to buy second hand. In the Baltic2Hand project, we have developed various business models for the reuse of textiles together with companies. Now we want to share tips on how you, as a traveler, can make more responsible choices in Stockholm!

Dive into second hand treasures in Södermalm

If you are heading to Stockholm, it is worth heading to the Södermalm area and especially the area around Hornsgatan. The area is known as the Slow Fashion District, and it is full of unique second hand shops, upcycled fashion, and treasure troves of old goods and antiques. Some of the entrepreneurs involved in the Baltic2Hand project operate in this very area, and their contribution is concretely visible in promoting responsible consumption.

Test the digital second-hand map

One of the entrepreneurs in the project has created the Re-Map Slowfashion map, which allows you to easily find the best second-hand gems in Stockholm. The map acts as a digital guide to responsible shopping – try it out and find your own treasures.

A thesis is also currently being completed at the Turku University of Applied Sciences, which deals with encouraging consumers to buy second-hand in the context of responsible tourism. The map may also expand to Turku in the future!

Remember responsibility at home too

Second-hand finds can be made anywhere – also at home or on other summer holiday trips. Small choices can make a big difference: recycle, support local entrepreneurs and choose more sustainable options.

Have a happy and responsible summer everyone!
