Knitted fabric samples from mechanically opened textile fibres

The demo explored the production of knitted fabrics using yarn made of mechanically opened cotton fibres from post-consumer denim.

The opened fibres were mixed with virgin cotton to enhance their spinnability into yarn. After that, the fibre blend was processed into yarn on a lab-scale ring spinning machinery. The yarn was knitted into different fabric samples using an industrial flatbed knitting machine.

The yarn was successfully produced into various knit structures that can be used in knitwear. It was observed that the knit structure significantly influenced the yarn knittability and overall appearance and feel of the fabric samples.
